Weekend Recap

Birthday weekend!

Started the weekend off right with crossfit, running, some dumbell squats, and toe-to-bars. I'm starting to understand more and more the importance of form while exercising. I was doing squats completely wrong and my knees starting popping and hurting. Not good! Luckily I have some great instructors that keep me from hurting myself.

After Crossfit, I met up with Chris and we went to the Mall. We decided to start a wedding registry at Macy's and it was completely overwhelming. There was this "registry consultant" who basically followed us around the store asking if we liked anything, and if we were going to scan anything onto our registry. I hate shopping with sales reps following you around. So frustrating having someone butting into your conversations and telling you what to buy. We ended up leaving pretty quickly and I'm not sure if we're going to register at Macy's at all now. What really did it for me, was the lady convincing us to scan a $90 bath mat. Really? I can get the same one at target for $20.

Good part about the mall was getting my nails done! I'm going to Mexico this week for a work trip and wanted to get Shellac so that I didn't have to worry about my nails chipping. I tried the new trend where you have one nail different than the rest. Not sure if I'd do it again or not, but it's a fun trend to try.

We met up with a bunch of friends for a Birthday Dinner in Capitol Hill. It kind of turned into a mess, we couldn't get a table anywhere and all ended up crowding around the bar in a Mexican restaurant. It definitely could have been planned better, but we still had fun.

This was my outfit. The crown lasted about 5 minutes, before I decided it wasn't working for me. Dress: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Express
Crown: Amazon.com
Tights: TheLimited
Purse: Mini MAC by Rebecca Minkoff

On Wednesday of this week I'm headed to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico! It's a trip for work for the top performers in the company. I'm super excited. I've never been to a resort before, much less one this nice! I started packing my suitcase tonight, I've found the best way to travel light is to roll your clothes. The picture below on the left is all my dresses rolled into log shapes. This keeps them wrinkle free and allows me to pack more clothes! Picture right is my fabulous new Tory Burch sunglasses. Love bargains at the Rack!

Crossfit and Sunday Brunch

I've always been one to go to the gym, hang out on the elliptical for 30-45 minutes reading a magazine, and never seeing the results. Well, part of wedding planning involves me looking hot, so i was looking for a better way to get skinny.

So a few months ago, a friend of mine from work introduced me to Crossfit. I signed up for a groupon deal and I was hooked. Basically this crazy sport focuses on muscle confusion, each day you exercise a different part of your body through using your own body weight or barbells/kettlebells/etc. It only takes about 20 minutes to do the workout, and you also do stretching and a warmup exercise. It's amazing. After 2 months of this I'm already seeing results physically, and finding myself getting stronger by the week.

Today's WOD
30 medicine ball cleans
(4 rounds)
-3 wall climb
-25 dumbell floor to overhead
-25 kettlebell swings
finish with 800 meter run

Hopefully in a few more months I'll look like these girls. Being strong is such an awesome feeling.

Another one of my favorite things is going to brunch on the weekend. Chris and I have been wanting to try this place called Portage Bay Cafe in South Lake Union, so we finally made it today. It was about a 45 minute wait to get in, but boy was it worth it! Chris and I both got the Ranchers breakfast, eggs, bacon, potatoes, and gluten free french toast. They had a fresh fruit bar with tons of topping options. The price was really good too! We got out of there in under $50 for the two of us including tip and coffee.
I'm also house and dog-sitting for my boss this weekend. My dachshund Lexi has decided to steal all his dogs toys and growl at her when she comes close. She definitely has only-child syndrome. Such a sass!
tired out after all the fighting and sassiness
